Forum: GratefulDead Subject: My dream Set

I have been meaning to do a compilation based on the recommendations I have given to the forum- these recommendations have as their genesis random finds I happened to luck upon and then other versions of songs I have found on esoteric forums (and the stratman among others here) and my listening validated them. It has been a great journey-

This is based on the two set format I grew up with and the song placements have all been used at least once and in most cases multiple times

Cold Rain and Snow >
Greatest Story Ever Told
Sugaree
Feel like a Stranger >
Ramble on Rose
Me and my Uncle >
Big RR Blues
Lazy Lightening >Supplication
Birdsong >
Cassidy >
Deal

Shakedown Street >
Playin >
1/2 Step >
Let it Grow >
He's Gone >
Jam>
Drums>
The Other One >
Wharf Rat >
Estimated Prophet >
Bertha

Encore: Morning Dew; Dark Star

I will come back to this and give the versions I would have on the compilation.

Feel free to recommend your own sets and join in the fun.

By the way a trivia question for you'all- the answer might surprise you- What original Grateful dead Jerry song did he perform the most often in concert with the grateful dead?

This is always a fun exercise, a great way to waste some time.... here's my answer (for today anyway, tommorrow it will be different)taking in the time period I saw the band (77-95) and songs in places that they appeared at least once. This would be a real fun show!!!

First: most played Jerry song: my guess.....Brown Eyed Women ?? A couiple of years ago when I had way too much time on my hands, I figured that BEWwas the song I saw the most. It's older than US Blues and seems to have been played almost every 3rd show I saw them and I don't think there was ever a time when it was put away for any period of time.

Bertha
Jack Straw
Brown Eyed Women
Lazy Lightning>
Supplication
To Lay Me Down
Passenger
Cumberland Blues
Music Never Stopped>
Might As Well

Box Of Rain >
Scarlet Begonias>
Fire On The Mt.
Playin In The Band>
Aiko Aiko>
Playin (reprise) >
Terrapin Station>
Drums >
Space>
Dark Star>
Truckin>
Other One>
Morning Dew>
Not Fade Away>
Casey Jones

E:Shakedown

not that it's the same but that setlist is something "the dead" would come up with. However you feel about the post jerry incarnation the one thing you can say was that their setlists were pretty inventive

JOTS, true the question was for original GD song.
I'll go with Truckin' then as my next choice.

lovely sets, the 2nd would be like 4 hours long, i'd pretty much throw in Iko Iko, and that would be it. (gotta love that cajun music)

Trivia question: My guess would have been Truckin', but China Cat beats that I see.

My ideal setlist:

Set 1:
Morning Dew
Good Morning Little School Girl
Doin' That Rag
I'm A King Bee
Turn On Your Love Light

Set 2:
Cryptical Envelopment
Drums
The Other One
Cryptical Envelopment
Dark Star
St. Stephen
The Eleven
Death Don't Have No Mercy
Alligator
Drums
Alligator
Caution (Do Not Stop On Tracks)
Feedback
And We Bid You Goodnight

Oh wait, that's 2-28-69. If I were modifying it, I'd add Viola Lee Blues and It's All Over Now, Baby Blue to the first set, and of course What's Become of the Baby and maybe Rosemary.

Thank you Wharf & Northstar for including Eyes of the World. I don't know how you other losers omit Eyes.:) This cannot possibly be an intentional act! Or can it? Hmmm.......

My dream set would have eyes.......
